Learning Outcomes
This module aims to provide theoretical and practical foundations for the application of educational neuroscience concepts to teaching. Having a better understanding of the functioning of the brain leads to progressive changes in the teaching practices with a great impact on students’ cognitive abilities, motivation, self-esteem and general wellbeing. Such approach contributes to the development of the citizens’ mental capital (Beddington et al. The Mental Wealth of Nations, Nature 455, 1057-1060. 2008, https://www.nature.com/articles/4551057a).
By the end of the lesson participants will be able to:
recognize the characteristics of attention and memory and design the most effective activities to stimulate them.
explain how our ways of reasoning can often mislead us and apply some approaches to develop critical thinking.
rank study strategies based on their effectiveness and create better lessons with specific goals.
acquire a conceptual and practical “toolbox” needed to stimulate learning strategies appropriate for modern society.
